Corn Syrup: A Horror Podcast

Tyler is joined by unpaid intern (and wife) Chelsea to break down and compare both versions of Psycho: Alfred Hitchcock's influential masterpiece from 1960 and Gus Van Sant's derivative and pointless remake from 1998. It's no secret which movie is better, but just how big of a blowout is it?

 

Intro: we discuss two upcoming horror TV shows, the announcement of the final Purge movie, and the questionable decision to reboot Wrong Turn. 

Being delivered by Krampus himself, Ty and Mike each give five things they want for Christmas relating to the horror genre.

 

Intro: they discuss the magnitude of the Warner Brothers/HBO Max deal, and Ty watches Underwater (2020) and The Guest (2014).

In the second installment of our "Original vs. Remake" series, we discuss all three Black Christmas movies and grade them based on five categories: acting, entertainment value, music, scares, and writing. 

 

Intro: we touch about the official title of the upcoming fifth installment of Scream, as well as Robert Englund signing on to appear in the next season of Stranger Things.

 

There is no shortage of bad horror movies, but only certain ones can claim the honor of being so bad that they're "good." The Happening and Birdemic: Shock and Terror fit the criteria. Listen to us breakdown these hilarious piles of garbage!

 

In the intro, Mike explains his "leave of absence," we discuss the latest teaser trailer for Halloween Kills, and we give our thoughts on the newly released (and much anticipated) Friday the 13th fan film, Never Hike in the Snow.

 

Tyler ranks all five Final Destination movies, a franchise known for its big box office numbers and high body count. In the intro, he discusses the teaser poster for the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie and where that ranks on his list of most anticipated upcoming horror movies. 

The podcast sizes up the 1972 and 2009 versions of The Last House on the Left, grading each movie based on five categories and declaring a "winner" in the end. It's a fun game and concept that we will be using again periodically! Also, the guys touch upon AMC FearFest and Tyler meets Mark Patton at a drive-in theater. 

Christine Elise (Child's Play 2, Body Snatchers, Cult of Chucky) joins us to celebrate three decades of our favorite Chucky movie. We reminisce about the production of the movie, her memories of working with late director John Lafia, her relationship with the horror community, and much more. She is as cool and open as her character Kyle. Happy 30th birthday, Child's Play 2!

With undertones of political and social malaise, 28 Days Later is more relevant and scarier than it was at the time of its release in 2002. The Corn Syrup boys discuss the movie that single-handedly reinvigorated the zombie genre, as well as its sequel, 28 Weeks Later (2007), a movie that is paced differently than its predecessor but is effective and scary (albeit more dense) in its own right. 

After countless hours of analyzing and back-and-forth debate (and a couple bottles of whiskey), we conclude the series with our top 10 movies of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre/Halloween/Friday the 13th/A Nightmare on Elm Street/Child's Play/Scream franchises.
